Chapter 19 · Running a race night

Running a race night.

Check in, run each session, fix the results and confirm, all from the Tonight screen. Plus penalties, corrections and make-up nights.

Where to find it·Leagues › Tonight › Open race night

To run tonight's league night, open the league and press Open race night on the Tonight card. Everything happens on that one screen: check drivers in, run each session, fix the results, and confirm. The big bar at the bottom always shows the one thing to do next.

You can also reach it from the round's own card (Open race night, or Back to race night once a session has started).

Check in

Tick Here for each driver who turned up and pick their rig, or Online for someone joining from home. Everyone here ticks the whole list. Fill from last round puts the drivers who raced last round on the same rigs, so you only fix the changes. Changes save as you go; there is no Save button.

If tonight's format has qualifying groups, check-in also has a Group column and a Split into groups button. See Heats + A/B Mains.

Running the sessions

  1. Start.

The next session's card has a Start button, and the next-step bar shows the same action. The session starts on the race server and rigs that are checked in are sent in.

  2. On track.

The card shows On track, the time left and how many drivers are connected. End <session> now stops it and keeps the results. Abort stops it now; start it again to re-run it, and the new run's results replace the old ones.

  3. Done.

The results appear on the card the moment the session ends. See Results.

Starts by itself. Each waiting session after the first has a Starts by itself when … ends tick box. When it is on, the next session starts automatically. After practice and qualifying it waits for the finish window first, so drivers can complete the lap they are on (see Race-night timing).

A finished session has Run again in its ⋯ menu. Practice and qualifying can be skipped: the night can be confirmed once every race is done.

Online drivers

Give them the join address shown in the header once a session is on track. The address stays the same for the whole night.

The order panel

While a session runs, the panel shows the live order. After qualifying it becomes the race grid. Drag drivers, or use the arrow buttons, to change it; the grid is then marked Grid set by hand and the race starts from your order. Use the grid rule again undoes your changes and rebuilds the grid from the format's rule. Drivers without a time are shown at the back, where they will start.

Each grid slot can also carry Ballast (kg) and a Restrictor (%), for success ballast. Ballast is limited to the round's maximum set in the race settings.

If the screen can't reach the race server

The screen says it can't reach the race server and keeps retrying. It keeps showing the last state it had, and the buttons still work.

Confirming the night

When every race is done, the next-step bar offers Confirm & close night. It confirms the results, posts the standings to your public pages and Discord, and frees the race server. If the league's Confirming results also frees the server setting is off, the button reads Confirm results and the server keeps running. Use Free the race server in the ⋯ menu when you are done with it.

Confirmed by mistake? ⋯ › Reopen results. The round leaves the public standings until you confirm it again.

Results, penalties and corrections

Every finished session card shows a results table: position, driver, laps, best lap, gap and status. Race cards add Fastest lap and Points tonight, and an After tonight standings preview shows what the championship will look like once you confirm. Everything you change saves as you go.

Give the fastest lapPick the driver in the Fastest lap column. One per race.
Add a missing resultAdd a driver enters a result by hand, for example when nothing was captured for someone.

See incidentsIncidents lists the collisions and cuts the race server reported for that driver.

Penalties

On a race, +5 s opens a five-second time penalty and Penalty… opens the full choice. Every penalty needs a reason, which is kept with it.

PenaltyEffect
Time (seconds)Added to the driver's race time. When a time penalty changes the order, the card says The order follows race time and penalties.
PointsPoints taken off. Applies to: This race or the Championship total.
Grid placesThe driver drops that many places on the grid. A grid penalty given on qualifying applies to the next race.
DisqualifyThe driver scores nothing for that session.

Qualifying sessions take grid places and disqualification only; practice has no penalties. Penalties already given are listed on the card, each with Remove.

Minimum race distance. If the league has one set (in Settings, Scoring), drivers who covered less than that percentage of the winner's laps are Not classified.

Missed nights and make-up nights

Two tools, and you can use both:

  • Drop worst rounds. Each driver's worst N rounds don't count.
  • Make-up nights. A driver who missed a round races later, for limited points.

Running a make-up night

  1. Add it.

On the league page press + Add make-up night, pick the round it makes up, then the date and track.

  2. Run it.

Open it from its row under the round. It runs on the Tonight screen like any other night.

  3. Say which round each result counts for.

On the results, each driver has a Counts for round choice. The default is the earliest round that driver missed.

  4. Confirm it.

A make-up night is confirmed on its own, separately from its round.

Make-up points are limited. By default the best a make-up driver can score is 4th-place points, and Winning still pays 4th-place points. The other choice is Everyone moves down: 1st pays 4th, 2nd pays 5th…. Both are set in the league's Settings under Missed nights. A session's own scoring can only make a make-up stricter, never more generous.

If a driver raced more than one night of the same round, their best result counts.

Make-up nights appear as rows under their round on the league page. Their ⋯ menu has Change date or track, Reopen results and Remove. In the standings, make-up points are marked M.
